Late postcard

Video projected onto fiberglass insulation

This piece consists of insulation material attached to the wall and a video projected onto it. The video has a line of text saying: “I am writing to let you know that I am not there anymore”. Writing is a complex process in which meaning gets lost, multiplies, overlaps, recreates, reshapes and so on. The phrase implies a deferral or postponement. Postcards usually are sent from the place in which the sender is present at that time. So there is the idea of displacement or unsuitability between what the text says and the meaning of this object assigned by the title. While the material has very strong physical qualities, the letters from the text suggest a fantastical appearance but it’s materiality that summons specters.
